TECHNAL launches certified SOLEAL Next smoke ventilation solution with SE Controls

EN 12101-2 certification gives customers a tested route to integrating natural smoke ventilation into commercial façades across the UK and Ireland.

TECHNAL UK and Ireland has expanded the capabilities of the SOLEAL Next window system with a certified Natural Smoke and Heat Ventilator (NSHEV) solution developed in partnership with SE Controls. The new offer gives developers, facade contractors, fabricators and specifiers a tested, compliant option for projects requiring natural smoke ventilation.

Following a comprehensive joint testing and assessment programme with SE Controls and IFCC, a UK Notified Body, the solution is certified to EN 12101-2:2003, the harmonised European standard for Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators.

A tested route to compliant smoke ventilation

Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators are a critical part of a building's life safety strategy, helping to release smoke and heat in a controlled way during a fire.

Under the Construction Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011), NSHEV products must be certified as conforming to the requirements of EN 12101-2 before they can be placed on the market for this application.

The certified SOLEAL Next solution brings the window system and SE Controls’ smoke ventilation expertise together in one coordinated offer, helping project teams address compliance requirements without compromising the architectural intent of the façade.

Available Configurations

The current certification is available for:

  • Side-hung open-out windows

  • Bottom-hung open-out windows

Certification is limited to the profile references listed in the approved documentation. TECHNAL customers should consult the relevant technical information at the outset of a project to confirm suitability and applicable compliance requirements.

A clear route for fabricators

To manufacture certified SOLEAL Next NSHEV units, fabricators must operate under an annually audited EN 12101-2 System 1 Factory Production Control (FPC) process administered by SE Controls.

Early engagement with SE Controls will help fabricators put the required processes and approvals in place before production begins, supporting a smoother route to market for project-specific units.

Any NSHEV product manufactured outside an approved EN 12101-2 System 1 Factory Production Control process will not be eligible for certification by SE Controls.

Fabricators interested in adding the certified SOLEAL Next NSHEV solution to their offer can register their interest with SE Controls at info@secontrols.com.

Expanding the SOLEAL Next offer

This certification extends SOLEAL Next into a specialist life safety application, giving the UK and Ireland market a tested smoke ventilation option within a proven aluminium window platform.

Working with SE Controls, TECHNAL can support project teams and fabricators with the technical information needed to assess suitability, coordinate the façade package and plan compliant manufacture. Customers considering SOLEAL Next for an NSHEV application should contact their TECHNAL representative or SE Controls to discuss the project requirements.
