Responsible Sourcing

TECHNAL UK and IRE is committed to responsible sourcing across every stage of our aluminium building systems. As part of Hydro, we deliver facades, windows, and doors made with low-carbon, recycled post-consumer aluminium. Our products are designed for circularity, achieving 95% recyclability and backed by certifications including ASI and third-party verified EPD's and LCA's. With ethical supply chains, transparent reporting, and a focus on social responsibility, TECHNAL helps architects, contractors, and clients meet BREEAM, LEED, and WELL requirements while reducing the environmental impact of their projects.

Responsible Sourcing at TECHNAL UK & IRE

At TECHNAL UK & IRE, we know that sustainable construction begins long before installation. As part of Hydro, a global leader in low-carbon aluminium, we take a holistic approach to responsible sourcing. From raw materials to finished facades, windows, and doors, we ensure that every step of the process minimises environmental impact, protects people, and delivers lasting value for clients and communities.

What Responsible Sourcing Means to Us

Responsible sourcing is about more than compliance. It's about making sure our products are:

  • Ethically sourced - upholding human rights, safe working conditions, and fair business practices.

  • Environmentally responsible - reducing carbon footprints, promoting and actioning circularity, and protecting biodiversity.

  • Socially conscious - supporting diversity, inclusion, and the communities where we operate.

Our Commitment in Practice

Low-Carbon Recycled Aluminium

For our products, we source Hydro CIRCAL®, made with at least 75% recycled post-consumer aluminium. Hydro CIRCAL® 75R is available as standard, and has a carbon footprint of just 1.9 CO2e per kg of aluminium. This cuts embodied carbon by 80% when compared to the global average for primary aluminium production and is backed up with an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration.

For projects where sustainability goals are even more stringent, Hydro CIRCAL® 100R is available. It's our most advanced material and is made with 100% recycled post-consumer scrap. This lowers the carbon footprint to just 0.5 CO2e per kg of aluminium - a 97% reduction when compared to global primary production.

Circular by Design

Our products are designed to be 95% recyclable, with components selected for ease of disassembly and reuse. By enabling closed-loop recycling, we help clients achieve circular construction goals and meet standards such as BREEAM and LEED. With our QR code product management system GeniusID, clients and building owners are able to see the current material value in their products, facilitating end-of-life recovery of recyclable materials. In the UK, we have several completed and current projects where we are collaborating with contractors and fabricators to sort and recover old aluminium building systems. These are then reintegrated into our supply chain, remelted into Hydro CIRCAL® and reused in new construction projects around the world.

Certified and Transparent

As part of Hydro, we hold Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certifications for performance and chain of custody. We provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPD's) with clear, third-party verified data on carbon footprint and recycled content. With TechDesign, dynamic EPD's can be generated by our team and fabricator partners for clear, concise data on individual project environmental impact.

Ethical Supply Chain

Every TECHNAL supplier aligns with Hydro's Supplier Code of Conduct, based on ILO, OECD, and UN Standards. We conduct risk mapping, supplier audits, and continuous engagement to ensure high standards of governance and ethics. We provide support to our fabricator partners to ensure that they are able to improve their own operations and minimise impact on the environment.

Social Responsibility

Our responsible sourcing also reflects Hydro's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community development. From safe and inclusive workplaces to global partnerships in education and entrepreneurship, we believe in creating positive impact alongside business values.

Why it Matters for Your Projects

By choosing TECHNAL, clients, main contractiors, architects, and fabricators can be confident that their aluminium building systems are responsibly sourced, low-carbon, and fully certified and traceable. This not only supports sustainability certification but also demonstrates leadership in responsible construction.
