Perched on Cornwall's coastline, the iconic Carbis Bay Hotel - site of the 47th G7 summit - underwent a transformative upgrade featuring high-performing TECHNAL aluminium building systems designed for extreme weather endurance.

Site-Specific Specification
Exeter-based Harmony Architectural Aluminium led the design, manufacture, and installation under a £400k contract. Their specification included windows, curtain walling, folding, and sliding doors by TECHNAL, applied to eight beachfront lodges and a three-storey multi-utility venue (MUV) wedding facility.

Engineered for Extreme Coastal Conditions
Sited directly on the beach, the lodges and wedding venue face constant exposure to salt spray, wind, and driving rain. TECHNAL's products were chosen for their proven performance in such environments, offering robust resistance to wind, air, and water, while delivering expansive openings and generous views.

Scale, Comfort, and Aesthetic
The glazing package featured 29 sets of two or three panel sliding doors, each 2.7m tall, which seamlessly connect the luxury lodges to the shoreline. The MUV's ground floor showcases three retail units with 2.6m high folding doors. Upstairs, seven sets of 2.8m high sliding doors and entrance doors open onto balconies, while the top floor is crowned with panoramic facade screens equipped with automatic top-hung vents and solar-control glazing.

Technical Performance Credentials
Harmony worked closely alongside TECHNAL's Technical Team to secure necessary certification for wind-pressure ratings, corrosion resistance, and other performance parameters. Supply logistics were carefully managed to accommodate ongoing hotel operations and seasonal events - even weddings on the beach - during the year-long installation.
