Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, Bahrain

A façade transformation redefining performance, light, and urban connection

For more than four decades, the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel stood as one of Manama’s earliest hospitality landmarks. A symbol of a growing nation in the 1980s, its presence was defined by solidity, permanence, and a distinctly inward architectural language.

Today, it tells a different story.

Following a complete transformation, the hotel reopens as a contemporary destination, defined by openness, light, and a renewed connection to the city. At the heart of this evolution lies the façade: a complete rethinking of how the building performs, communicates, and lives.

Reimagining an icon

Originally completed in 1981, the Sheraton Bahrain reflected the architectural codes of its time. A solid envelope, limited glazing, and a clear separation between interior and exterior defined its identity.

The renovation presented a clear challenge: how to preserve the building’s legacy while aligning it with the expectations of modern hospitality.

The answer was not to erase the past, but to transform its expression.

The new façade introduces transparency where there was opacity, fluidity where there was rigidity. It repositions the building not as an object, but as an experience: open, connected, and responsive to its environment.

A façade designed for performance and experience

TECHNAL played a central role in this transformation, delivering high-performance aluminium façade systems that balance architectural intent with measurable performance.

The new envelope enhances:

  • Daylight penetration, creating brighter, more inviting interiors

  • Thermal and acoustic performance, supporting comfort in a demanding climate

  • Visual continuity, strengthening the relationship between interior spaces and the urban context

  • Durability and long-term performance, ensuring resilience over time

Beyond performance, the façade contributes to the overall guest experience. It brings the outside in, frames views of the evolving skyline, and supports the shift from a traditional business hotel to a contemporary lifestyle destination.
