Aluminium's properties of flexibility, lightness and strength make it the ideal material for almost any design challenge! It also possesses other highly sought-after qualities :
Aluminium has characteristics that make it an environmentally friendly metal: abundant, indefinitely recyclable and therefore durable. Its quality and material properties are never lost. In addition, aluminum remelting uses only 5% of the energy required to produce primary aluminium.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standard-setting and certification organisation. It works towards responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium following an entire value chain approach. ASI's Standards apply throughout the supply chain, from mining through to downstream sectors that use aluminium in their sectors. ASI launched its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard in December 2017.
There are currently over 20 plants now certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative across the value-chain including bauxite mining and alumnia refining, via primary aluminium production and remelting, to rolled products and extruded solutions, is a core focus of the Hydro Group.
"ASI certification is part of our strategy, and we will continue following up. It's because consumers want sustainable materials from companies that do business the right way - and this is what Hydro is all about," says Egil Hogna, Executive Vice President of Extruded Solutions.
