Hydro CIRCAL is a range of premium quality aluminum made of at least 75% recycled aluminum from post-consumer waste, i.e. end-of-life joinery such as facades and windows that have been dismantled from the building and fully recycled.
A rigorous selection of the material to be recycled is made, with the aim of obtaining the optimal alloy for the manufacture of profiles dedicated to the joineries. Aluminum is a material that can be found in dozens of different alloys, combined with other elements such as magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, silicon, titanium and chromium. The Hydro plant in Dormagen, Germany, has developed a technology that efficiently separates aluminum from other materials, and allocates each of the metals to the appropriate recycling. This system allows only the recycled aluminum suitable for window production to be sent to Hydro's smelters.
