Producing aluminium has an impact on the environment: locally where we operate and globally due to greenhouse gas emissions. The main inputs related to our production are bauxite, energy and water use. As part of the leading fully integrated aluminium company, we are responsible for operating in an environmentally conscious way.
By continuously improving the way we produce aluminium, we strive to minimise the impact our activities have on the environment, especially in biodiversity, water stewardship and climate change.
The Climate Strategy of the Hydro Group is simple, we intend to save at least as much carbon emissions as we generate. We will do this by:
Currently, aluminium is experiencing the fastest-growing demand among all metals in the world. The main reasons for this are its low weight and high strength. Aluminium is key to zero-energy buildings, and innovation and technology development are the key enablers toward CO2 free processes. The ambitions of Hydro moving forward is to reduce their emission by 10% in 2025 and by 30% in 2030.
