Fairhursts Design Group
Advanced glazing systems from the TECHNAL range have been employed for the construction of the new Materials Innovations Factory (MIF) located within the University of Liverpool's "Knowledge Quarter" - helping create an important research facility for the development of new technologies.
The 11,600m2, multi-million project has been led by BAM Construction, with Dortech Architectural Systems Ltd having designed, manufactured and installed a package of products that included MX62 curtain walling and CD Doors.
The research building, now completed and handed over, is made visually more striking by the way the project architects, Fairhursts Design Group, have combined the use of the different Technal systems to create the main facades, as well as a link structure to the existing Donnan Building, further enhancing the appearance of the curtain wall in one area through the addition of bespoke feature caps.
Fairhurts' designs have created a central, four-storey atrium in which a continuous run of MX52 sloped roof glazing was installed. This brings natural light into the central realm of the building.
