A new flagship 10-storey hotel on Liverpool’s famous waterfront, which incorporates more than 200 aluminium casement windows from Technal, has been completed.
Designed by Aedas Architects, developed by the Beetham Organization and built by Carillion, the Radisson SAS Hotel is a cosmopolitan, design-led hotel which benefits from breathtaking views across the River Mersey and the Irish Sea.
Airedale Architectural fabricated the FXi46 fixed light windows, which were pre-installed into concrete panels off-site in a factory in Cambridgeshire. This innovative method of construction improved accuracy, quality and significantly reduced the build time. The 8m long pre-finished white acid-etched panels were then craned into position on site in Liverpool.
The technique reduced the time required to build a weathertight structure and removed the requirement for external scaffolding, brick cladding and blockwork trades. The panels were also designed to remove visible joints in the hotel bedrooms.
The hotel, which is located in the heart of the city’s business district, forms part of a £55m leisure and residential development on the site of the former St Paul’s Eye Hospital in Liverpool – the European Capital of Culture for 2008. Facilities include 197 bedrooms decorated in ocean and urban styles, a swimming pool, health and fitness club and business centre.
The FXi46 window provided a low maintenance, contemporary glazing solution for the scheme. Slim sight lines create a modern and stylish finish, and intelligent design principles and advanced production techniques ensure long-term durability.
Suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects, FXi46 is part of Technal’s fully integrated FXi casement window suite, and uses the same common range of profiles and accessories to simplify specification and fabrication. Available in a wide choice of configurations and three module sizes – 46mm, 52mm and 65mm, FXi benefits from a highly efficient flush polyamide thermal break to offer enhanced performance and the facility for single or dual colours.
The system is constructed with strong, flush mitre joints for a clean and robust finish and can be inserted into curtain walling or used as punched hole, composite or ribbon glazing for complete design flexibility.
