TECHNAL SUPPLIES MORE THAN 500 WINDOWS AND DOORS FOR AWARD-WINNING RIVERSIDE REGENERATION SCHEME

More than 500 windows and doors have been supplied by architectural aluminium systems specialist, Technal, for an award-winning riverside urban regeneration scheme in London developed by St George.

Brewhouse Lane forms part of Putney Wharf – the mixed-use redevelopment of an important brownfield site on the River Thames. This imaginative scheme has created a lively and flourishing community of restaurants, bars, apartments, townhouses and offices, revitalising a historic part of Putney. The design architects for the project were John Thompson & Partners and the project architects, PRC Architects.

The stylish loft-style Brewhouse apartments and penthouses benefit from direct views of the River Thames or of peaceful, private landscaped courtyards with water features.

The architectural detailing of the two to six-storey building echoes the nearby riverside mansion blocks and complements the adjacent residential area. Stone features such as bands above the ground floor commercial units and curved radius heads to the balcony windows and doors contrast with the warehouse-style brickwork cladding. Technal’s MC curtain walling is set back at roof level, providing full height
glazing and superb views from the penthouses, and is integrated with balcony doors for access onto the roof terraces.

Fabricated and installed by East Yorkshire Aluminium and Glass in a £1.6m contract, Technal’s FXi52 side hung casement windows and balcony doors were finished in crisp white and glazed in clear glass. EYG also fabricated Technal’s MC curtain walling to the penthouses and the commercial elements of the scheme. Spans of MC facetted curtain walling in excess of 4m wide were used to enclose a striking semi-circular restaurant.

Commenting on the specification for the glazing, Jonathan Rowe, PRC’s Project Architect for the Brewhouse development, said, “Aluminium systems are generally our first choice for apartments and commercial schemes because of their low maintenance qualities and good thermal performance. The windows and doors for this project were also required to have slim profiles as a condition of planning. Technal’s systems met all the criteria in the specification and we are very pleased with the end result.”

The FXi52 windows and balcony doors feature elegantly curved profiles for a more modern appearance, and an efficient flush polyamide thermal bridge for excellent thermal performance. Sight lines are clean and narrow, and the 52mm framing system uses profiles with three separate hollows for superior strength and insulation.

Also available in the FXi suite, in either 46mm, 52mm or 65mm options, are fixed light, projecting top, side and bottom hung, and tilt-turn casement windows. The systems can be inserted into curtain walling, and used as standalone units or ribbon glazing.
