Brise Soleil

Suneal Aluminium Brise Soleil System

Suneal is Technal’s aluminium brise soleil sun shading system which provides specifiers, contractors and building occupiers with highly efficient solar control and the highest standards of architectural aesthetics.

Used extensively internationally, this is a multi-functional addition to the façade which will:

  • Protect occupants from the sun
  • Control solar gain
  • Optimise natural light
  • Enhance any building envelope with its stylish visual appeal

The Widest Choice of Solar Control Solutions

The Suneal sun shading system offers an exceptionally wide choice of options to give specifiers even greater freedom of expression, choice to ensure occupier comfort and to meet their sustainability objectives.

Blade options for Suneal include:

  • Vertical
  • Horizontal
  • Fixed – 100mm and 150mm
  • Motorised – allowing occupants to enjoy the benefits of solar gain in winter, solar protection in summer and to finely control natural light
  • Semi-elliptical blades from 175mm to 300mm
  • Angled – according to the façade orientation for maximum efficiency
  • Single piece blades – from 100mm to 300mm
  • Multi-part blades – from 350mm to 600mm
  • Louvres – 100mm and 115mm
  • Automatic or manual.

Finishes to Complement Any Building Envelope

Finishes for Suneal are designed to complement any building envelope and include:

  • Natural anodised aluminium
  • Polyester powder coatings in a full range of colours
  • Cendré shades exclusive to Technal
  • Finishes that give the appearance of natural wood.

Specification Assistance

Our technical team can provide assistance with design and calculations for Suneal to meet your specific project requirements and by using TechTouch – our dedicated energy simulation software package – to optimise solar gain and light transmission.

A Highly Sustainable Solution

The Suneal system has been developed to help address sustainability requirements and to minimise a building’s carbon footprint.  Its environmental benefits which will improve the thermal performance of a building include:

  • Passive solar protection – Suneal reduces the reliance on mechanical cooling systems, generating reductions in energy consumption.
  • Maximising natural light – The system allows high levels of natural light into the building, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Fully Compatible and Easy to Install

The Suneal aluminium sun shading system is fully compatible with our MX curtain walling suite – from a simple grid façade to beaded, structural sealant and roof glazing.

It can be fixed directly to the curtain walling or to an independent structure whilst maintaining visual consistency, and louvre blades can be integrated with standard cladding.

Suneal is easy to install by any Technal fabricator and is supplied in kit form ready for assembly, minimising work on site.

Extensive Wind Tunnel Testing

Extensive tests were carried out to develop sizing charts for Suneal according to a building’s orientation, location, wind pressure and snow loads – an invaluable aid to specification.

The wind testing took place at a climatic test centre in Nantes, France, using a high speed wind tunnel which is 6m wide and 5m high, and can generate wind speeds of up to 250km/h. Here, the Suneal system was tested using sections comprising three blades with spacing between each equal to the width of a blade and fixed to a steel structure in the wind tunnel.

The tests comprised progressive wind speeds increasing from 0 to 160km/h; intervals of 10 minutes at 160km/h – even though an event of such a speed would generally only last for just a few seconds; wind speeds rapidly increasing to 210km/h for 10 seconds before reducing back to 0.  The tests were all successful with no permanent deflection or damage to the blades.
