TECHNAL SYSTEMS SELECTED FOR OXFORDSHIRE COUNCILS £10m SCHOOLS REPLACEMENT WINDOW PROGRAMME

Architectural aluminium specialist, Technal, in partnership with fabricator and installer 3D Aluminium Plas, has been selected to supply window and door systems for Oxfordshire County Council’s £10m glazing replacement programme.

The five-year contract, which has an option to be extended for a further two years, was awarded to 3D Aluminium Plas and covers primary and secondary schools across Oxfordshire, as well as libraries and other county council buildings.

Around 60 replacement window projects will be completed in the first 12 months from the Council’s stock of around 600 buildings.

Technal’s FXi46 top hung casement windows, GXi horizontal sliding and CD pivot doors, and Series 7000 ground floor framing will be used for the programme.

Finished in a highly durable white polyester powder coating, the aluminium systems will be replacing timber windows, which have deteriorated, and will provide a more thermally efficient and low maintenance solution.

Commenting on the decision to use Technal’s systems, Tim Alley, Service Manager at Mouchel Parkman, building consultants to Oxfordshire County Council, said, “Technal’s systems have been used by the County Council for many years and have performed well. This was a factor in our decision to use their products for this major replacement programme as it gave us consistency of appearance where buildings on larger sites have already been refurbished.”

“The systems are good quality and, as a material, aluminium allows the Council and the building users to benefit from longevity and an attractive, low maintenance finish.”

Technal and 3D Aluminium Plas were selected following a detailed tender and interview process which looked at experience and track record, product and installation quality, efficiency and achieving best value for the Council.

Technal, part of Hydro Building Systems, offers a fully integrated range of aluminium casement windows developed to meet the most demanding of specifications for education, office and apartment schemes.

The FXi window and balcony door range has a highly efficient flush polyamide thermal break for enhanced thermal performance and is available in a choice of three module sizes – 46mm, 52mm and 65mm, which fulfil specifiers’ requirements for visual appeal, weather resistance and long-term durability.

The FXi system can also be inserted into curtain walling, ground floor framing or used as punched hole, composite and ribbon windows.
