TECHNAL LAUNCHES NEW CURTAIN WALLING SYSTEM AN INDUSTRY FIRST

Architectural aluminium systems specialist, Technal, part of Hydro Building Systems, has launched the MX curtain walling suite, which is believed to be the first in the UK to offer such a wide range of design options from a single grid system.

This major advance in façade technology gives architects and specifiers the opportunity to vary the appearance of the building envelope, and on a single project if required, with all the design and construction advantages of one fully integrated system. The thermal performance of MX is also enhanced and will achieve low U values in accordance with the most stringent building regulations.

Designers have the benefit of consistent site lines and interfaces, whether the specification is for low to high rise curtain walling or ribbon, faceted, structural, beaded and sloped glazing which are all available as part of the MX suite.

The use of one integrated grid system meets the functional requirements of contractors and developers, by simplifying specification, fabrication and installation to achieve consistently high quality, cost efficiency, and reductions in time on site.

The MX Trame option is dry glazed, removing the need for site-applied sealant – another industry first for Technal. This variation allows specifiers to highlight the vertical or horizontal profiles across the building envelope with projecting aerofoil caps to add further interest to the façade.

MX features a number of additional innovations and advancements in façade design:

  • A face-fixed spigot for each mullion/transom joint minimises and precisely controls the injection of sealant for improved weatherproofing
  • Each individual drainage zone has a series of bespoke EPDM plugs at each junction to prevent water ingress and remove the need for sealant for higher performance
  • The mullion jointing uses a specially designed sleeve spigot for each mullion for a higher quality joint.

Other features include a range of shaped caps for further design flexibility, the option of concealed vents in a variety of configurations, and full compatibility with Technal’s window and door suites. A choice of depths up to 240mm for the structural members is also available to meet individual project requirements and ensure cost efficiency.

The MX system is the result of an extensive product development programme and follows the success of Technal’s MC curtain wall. MX has been rigorously tested to BS EN standards for wind resistance, water tightness and air permeability.
